Day 47: Christmas in Takaka

It was the Christmas Parade in Takaka!  They shut down the one major street for the parade.  Unfortunately, due to the rain, it was a very short parade, and we got there too late to see Santa.  It's sort of like watching the Macy's Day Parade on Thanksgiving;  If you're not watching at the right moment, he slips by quite quickly.
We did watch the Takaka Citizen's Band, a volunteer brass band, play Christmas songs, mostly in tune and on time.  Pretty entertaining, actually.

We visited the Golden Bay Museum, which is tiny, but has a small collection of historical items from the area, a model of the first meeting of Mr. Abel Tasman (a Dutch explorer) and native Maori (hint, it didn't go well for either party), and a great collection of local shells.

After all the hoopla in town, we went for a lovely run around Payne's Ford, a scenic reserve north of town.  Molly had gone running there before, and it was a great little trail following the old tram line and river.
