Today, Friday, is Wendy's grand daughter's 13th birthday. Her name is Poppy, and she's having a party with 14 friends at her father's house in Clifton, a nearby town. So rather than ask us to work in the yard, we spent the morning making 24 pizza crusts for the party.
It was actually quite fun, and I think I have perfected my pizza crust now.
Poppy lives with her father, Andrew, in a house by a mostly defunct orchard in Clifton. This is not to say that the orchard no longer makes fruit, just that it's no longer commercially harvested.
Which means that there are things like avacados just growing, ready to be harvested!
And artichokes.
It's a little overgrown, but quite lovely in its own way. Andrew has just gotten a license to grow commercial hemp. He's interested in starting several hemp based businesses, and wants to get a feel for the plant before starting any number of projects. Obviously there is hemp rope, but he's particularly interested in hemp oils, and using the fibrous plant as building and crafting material. We are going to try to work a few days with him, just to check it out.
After dropping off the pizza crusts, we went for Happy Hour at The Brigand, a restaurant and bar in town. The best prices on drinks we've seen, and a great selection. The outdoor patio is good, too.
A cute little bridge by our house we just discovered.
A pretty lazy day for us in general. Tomorrow we asked to have off from work; there's going to be a Christmas Parade in town we want to check out.
