Cardrona is a little nothing of a town between Makaroroa and Queenstown. It does have a nice little pub and hotel, with lovely grounds for eating, lounging and drinking beer and wine, though.
Pretty quaint.
The road is a much faster, and straighter line to Queenstown, and also has the highest pass in NZ, at over 1000 meters.
And even the drive down has some interesting bits. See that windy road? We still had to drive down it.
Our place was just off of Suburb Street, which is now quite securely in the middle of Queenstown, and no where near the edge of town at all.
The place we stayed was overpriced, and a little bit tacky and not particularly charming for an AirBnB, but the view was pretty astounding. Even more so when you have a nice wine to go with dinner.
